Hydrangeas are great for decorating cakes they come in blue, white, purple and pink.

Cattle ya Orchid come in many colors. (would have to check florist availability)
Any type of silk flowers can be used. Some times your flower theme want work with a cake.Some flowers are to fragrant for a cake. So in the case you will need to use silk flowers. Fragrant flowers will make your cake taste like the flower. So you need to use silk flowers.
Fresh Fruit
Most people use strawberries, grapes, blueberries, blackberries, cherrys, and whole plums, are great for using to decorate cake with. Other fruits spoil to quickly.
